David Brotherton is the founder and president of Brotherton Strategies, a Seattle-based communications firm serving a mix of mission-driven, socially-responsible corporate, philanthropic and non-profit clients.
David is a communicator of conscience and practitioner with principles who has spent 20 years in public affairs and public relations framing complex issues, communicating corporate values and articulating persuasive messages. Through writing, research, evaluation, strategic planning and media relations, Brotherton Strategies helps its clients advance business objectives, foster positive social change, and influence public opinion.
Before founding his own firm, David was director of communications for the Marguerite Casey Foundation, a grantmaker supporting the economic and social empowerment of low-income families and communities nationwide. He previously served as vice president of public affairs for Imagio | J. Walter Thompson; as director of public relations for RealNetworks; and as a senior writer and account executive with the Gogerty Stark Marriott agency.
David began his career in Washington, DC, where he worked first as a Congressional staffer and later a political reporter. He has also served on numerous political campaigns at the federal, state and local levels.
David earned his bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR and did his masters work in journalism at the University of Oregon. He currently serves on the board of Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, an organization that provides lifetime quality care for formerly abused or exploited chimpanzees, while advocating for great apes through education and collaboration.

Kirsten Mabry is a communications consultant with expertise in corporate and consumer public relations. Her focus includes crisis communications, media relations, campaign strategy, branding, public education and event coordination. Kirsten lives and works on the East Coast as a satellite office for Brotherton Strategies.
Whether working with a smaller non-profit organization or a Fortune 500 company, Kirsten becomes an integral part of any team with a can-do attitude, and a passion for positive change and social responsibility. For more than ten years, Kirsten has used her skills to help organizations, causes and communities make lasting impacts through grassroots outreach, policy influence and consumer awareness. She has also had the fortune of working on numerous environmental initiatives from sustainable farming to clean technology.
Prior to Brotherton Strategies, Kirsten was an account supervisor for MS&L Worldwide, where she supported clients in the clean technology field and created an award-winning public education campaign for an international non-profit association. She also worked as a principle for Public Strategies, establishing and growing multiple statewide non-profit women’s conferences and servicing several global brand clients.
Kirsten graduated from the University of Texas and has a marketing degree from the McCombs School of Business.

Cynthia Scheiderer is incorrigibly curious. She asks incisive questions and skillfully includes diverse perspectives and interests to help organizations understand, influence, and engage their world on issues that matter. For the past 10 years she has helped foundations, public agencies, and nonprofits tell their stories through projects that include research, community engagement, strategic communications, brand development, messaging, technology, media, and policy. Recent clients include the City of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and Environment, Unbound Philanthropy, Common Ground, Washington Low Income Housing Alliance, the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
Before establishing Scheiderer Partners, Cynthia was a director of public affairs and communications at Casey Family Programs where she built a community outreach function, led the startup of a national consumer advocacy group, and managed grants focused on constituency organizing. Prior to this, she spent seven years in the high tech industry, including five years at Adobe Systems, during which she managed teams and initiatives in customer support, knowledge management, training, business development, and consulting.
Cynthia earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from California State University, Fullerton, and her master’s degree in adult education and training from Seattle University. She is a founding member of the board of directors of Foster Care Alumni of America and was recently recognized with their Vision Award. She and her husband—and business partner—Greg live and work in Seattle with two office cats. When they’re not working, they’re usually traveling by train, watching or reviewing a play, or keeping score at a baseball game.

Alice Skipton is a skilled writer, interviewer, researcher, project manager and strategist. As a consultant for Brotherton Strategies, she brings over a decade of experience supporting for profits, non-profits, foundations and educational institutions in their communications efforts, from storytelling to branding.
Before becoming a consultant, Alice worked for Casey Family Programs, the largest national foundation focused solely on improving the lives of youth in foster care. More recently, Alice worked as part of the writing team for the web site of the PBS documentary: This Emotional Life. The content-rich site focuses on topics highlighted in the series, such as PTSD, bullying, resilience and the pursuit of happiness.
Alice holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Penn State University. Passionate about local food, she also operates Heyday Farm with her husband.
